Set-up of the pilot site begins

The Smart-SWS concept makes it possible to balance the landscape water balance by combining flood protection and drought prevention. In fall 2024, the pilot plant for Smart-SWS will be set up and tested in Hüll on the grounds of the Society for Hop Research. The plant is intended to improve the existing flood protection and the quantitative and qualitative condition of the aquifer. In a comprehensive hydraulic and hydrochemical investigation program, the data for a reliable assessment of the effects of artificial groundwater recharge from heavy rainfall and flood peaks will be collected.

The pilot plant was made possible by the support of the Federal Ministry of Education and Research, represented by the Karlsruhe Project Management Agency, as well as the rapid, energetic and pragmatic support of the local authorities and the Society for Hop Research.
